Cap and Tassel
A cap and tassel are both worn during graduation. A cap is also known as a mortarboard and a tassel is also known as a liripipe. A cap is an item found in academic regalia and is worn on the head during a graduation ceremony. The cap and tassel give the graduate a feeling of prestige and accomplishment. On top of this cap, there is a piece of string that is placed at the centre and drops down over the edge of the board. This is what is known as the tassel or liripipe. During graduation, the tassel is moved from one side to the other as an indication that the student has graduated.
